Wander Wednesday

“Not all those who wander are lost.”- J.R.R. Tolkien

Welcome to autumn!

While the coronavirus is still out there, we are traveling a lot! Please remember to stay safe and get the boosters as needed. This month we highlight the Marquesas Archipelago, one of the five island groups that make up French Polynesia. We visited several of the fascinating volcanic islands on the SS Paul Gauguin.

Fatu Iva black and white sign

This beautifully decorated sign welcomes visitors to Fatu Hiva, the southernmost island in the Marquesas region of French Polynesia. This sign isn’t missing the “H”-the Marquesans do not pronounce it. We looked at highly decorated paintings on tapa paper, which is made by pounding bark into thin sheets. This sign has many commonly seen decorative patterns for this area.
