Wander Wednesday

“Not all those who wander are lost.”- J.R.R. Tolkien

I am continuing to post photos from my travels as inspiration even if we have to travel later. It’s never to early to start planning your next adventure!

stone mosaic flower design

These flowers are created from pieces of stones and gems, especially cut, polished, and inlaid by master Italian stone carvers. It is called “pietra dura.” The art has been around for over 500 years, but the Medici family in Florence, Italy commissioned so many works that it became an enduring industry there.  This photo comes from the museum where you can see examples of these amazing stone pictures: Opificio delle Pietre Dure.

This museum is definitely worth a walk-through while in Florence.
