It’s full on summer in the Northern Hemisphere, so I hope your travels are taking you to the places you love the most at this time of year! Beach? Mountains? Down Under for winter delights? It’s all possible when you plan for it! Enjoy!
This month we are highlighting “Small Delights.” Sometimes the tiniest things bring the most joy. Just take some extra time to really look!
Wander Wednesday
“Not all those who wander are lost.”- J.R.R. Tolkien
This is the artist painting himself into the picture. I love this small detail within the larger painting. The artist is part of the landscape, while capturing the landscape for posterity, as well as himself at that moment in time.
The painting is “View From Mt. Holyoke, Northampton, Massachusetts, after a Thunderstorm-The Oxbow,” by Thomas Cole, 1836. It is large-just about 4 feet by 6 feet and is at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. I don’t remember when I first saw this painting, but I’ve always remembered it since I went to college in Northampton, MA and enjoyed the views from the top of the mountain. Remember to look for the tiny details wherever you are!
