It’s full on summer in the Northern Hemisphere, so I hope your travels are taking you to the places you love the most at this time of year! Beach? Mountains? Down Under for winter delights? It’s all possible when you plan for it! Enjoy!
This month we are highlighting “Small Delights.” Sometimes the tiniest things bring the most joy. Just take some extra time to really look!

Wander Wednesday

“Not all those who wander are lost.”- J.R.R. Tolkien

porcelain plate with peaches and bats

In Asian art, pictures on porcelain and other arts have special meanings. This porcelain dish has bats and peaches. The tiny bats are symbols of good luck, because the Chinese word for “bat” sounds similar to the word for “good fortune.” Peaches are symbols of longevity, so this dish is like a Hallmark card wishing the recipient good luck, good fortune and long life. Knowing the different meanings of pictures in art can make the viewing experience more rewarding. This picture is from the San Antonio (TX) Museum of Art, but visit your local museum and look for the tiny images!
