This month, we’re sharing photos from our recent trip to Morocco. January will be Part 1, February will be Part 2
(There are just too many good photos for one month!)

Morocco is a country of contrasts: the cities, with new, old, and ancient areas, the mountains, and the deserts. We were fortunate to work with the knowledgeable people at Experience Morocco (https://www.experiencemorocco.com/), who ably assisted us with our two-week itinerary. Hopefully, these photos will show some of the many facets of our trip to Morocco.

Colorful dye pits in Fes

After an episode on The Amazing Race, I wanted to see the leather tannery dye pits in Fes. The Chouara Tannery is one of the oldest and the largest in Fes. The white vats on the left hold liquids for softening cow, goat, sheep, and camel hides. The colorful vats contain the dyes, with colors from poppies, indigo, or henna, to name a few. The process takes several days to create leather that can be made into goods. We viewed the vats from a rooftop balcony of one of the leather shops and of course, were shown the many types of items that are made from leather. Be prepared for strong odors above the pits and for friendly salespeople hoping you will buy something!
